How can we help?

Answers to the most common DriveAssist questions, or reach us directly.

Getting started

Which Android versions are supported?

DriveAssist runs on Android 8.0 (API 26) and newer, on phones, foldables and tablets.

What permissions does DriveAssist need, and why?

Each permission is requested only when you use the related feature: Location for the map, speed and parking; Microphone for voice commands; Contacts and Phone for hands-free calling; SMS for Emergency SOS. You can use the rest of the app if you decline any of them. See the Privacy Policy for the full table.

Do I need an account?

No. DriveAssist works fully as a guest. An account is only needed for Pro encrypted cloud sync.

Voice assistant

Does voice recognition need an internet connection?

No. Speech is recognized on your phone and processed in temporary memory. Nothing is uploaded. If your device is missing its offline speech pack, install it from Android settings (Languages & input → Speech).

How do I choose between the System Speech Engine and Bundled Offline Engine?

Open Control Center → Voice Assistant Identity and select your preferred Speech Engine Mode (Auto, System, or Offline Vosk). In Auto mode, DriveAssist uses Android's speech service when available and automatically fails over to the bundled offline engine when cellular connectivity is unavailable. The bundled Vosk engine runs 100% on-device with zero cloud reliance.

How can I test my microphone without triggering actual car actions?

Open Control Center → Voice Assistant Identity and use the interactive Test Microphone diagnostic card. It measures real-time audio volume, verifies wake word spotter detection, and previews live transcription without dialing contacts or starting routes.

The wake word triggers by accident or not at all. What can I do?

Open Control Center → Voice Assistant Identity and adjust Wake Word Sensitivity. Use Low in noisy cabins and High if it misses you. Also check that the microphone permission is granted and that battery optimization isn't restricting the app.

Will DriveAssist pause my music?

No. Standby listening never ducks or pauses audio. Audio focus is requested only while you are actively speaking a command.

What are the Voice Assistant HUD display modes?

The Voice Assistant HUD provides three streamlined display states: Uncollapsed (spans the top bar with active wake words and spoken driving suggestions), Collapsed (compact center-anchored pill with dead-center Copilot status badge and dynamic anti-collision clearance for compact screens), and Perched (docked into an animated pulsing wave button on the right top bar). Tap the perched icon anytime to restore the full HUD.

Can I customize the assistant voice and persona?

Yes. Under Control Center → Voice & Assistant Identity, choose between DriveAssist (balanced copilot), Nova (energetic and concise), Atlas (calm, measured highway guidance), or Custom. Spoken confirmations for navigation routing, phone calls, and parking reminders tailor their phrasing to your chosen persona 100% locally on your device. You can also toggle Spoken Voice Responses on or off at any time.

Emergency SOS

How do I set up Emergency SOS?
  1. Open Control Center → Interaction & Driving Safety.
  2. Tap Configure SOS.
  3. Pick your emergency contacts and, on dual-SIM phones, the SIM to send from.
  4. Grant the SMS and Phone permissions when asked.

The status badge changes from Not Set to Configured when you're ready.

What happens when I trigger SOS?

DriveAssist texts your emergency contacts a message with a live GPS map link. If you enabled SOS Triggers Phone Call Also, it also calls your primary contact. Standard carrier SMS rates may apply, and SOS needs cellular service. It does not replace calling local emergency services.

Navigation, route alerts & parking

Which navigation apps can I use?

Google Maps and Waze. Choose one under Control Center → Navigation Engine. If the app you pick isn't installed, DriveAssist offers a one-tap link to install it.

How do Proactive Route Alerts and OpenStreetMap Corridor Hazards work?

Once you accept the Route & Habit Recommendation Consent and a learned destination routine reaches your confidence threshold (50% by default, customizable from 25% to 90% under Control Center → Cortex → Privacy & Controls), DriveAssist compares your historical commute time against live OpenStreetMap, Overpass API, and OSRM road conditions (traffic delays, construction/closures, speed cameras, school zones, railway crossings, and severe weather). If a delay or hazard is reported on your usual corridor, DriveAssist displays what OpenStreetMap reports and asks whether you want to Keep Usual Route or Use Recommended Route.

How does automatic parking detection work?

When your phone disconnects from your car's Bluetooth audio, DriveAssist saves your location. Tap the Parking card to get walking directions back, or long-press it to clear the spot. You can also mark a spot manually at any time.

How do tap-on-POI and road-following routes work on the map?

Tap any business, gas station, restaurant, or landmark icon directly on the live map (or long-press any street) to plot a turn-by-turn road route using free OpenStreetMap routing. DriveAssist calculates real driving distance and travel duration at $0 cost and opens a frosted glass Place Details sheet (or dialog on tablets) with address, phone number, star rating, and one-tap actions to launch navigation, call, save, or share your ETA. If offline, it seamlessly falls back to direct distance calculation.

How does the Fullscreen Map Quick Access Drawer work?

In Fullscreen Map mode, a sleek side tab button appears along the right edge of the screen. Tapping it slides open the Quick Access Drawer with dual tabs for your pinned destinations and speed-dial contacts, so you never have to leave your map to make a call or switch routes. All drivers can set their default open tab (Locations or Contacts) for free under Control Center → Cockpit Console, while Pro subscribers can fine-tune tab transparency and vertically calibrate its height along the bezel.

Cortex routines, vault & security

How are Drive Telemetry and Cortex organized?

Drive Telemetry (Control Center → Drive Telemetry) focuses on real-time vehicle dynamics: your Live Speedometer, G-Force & 4-Tire TPMS grid, and Multi-Slot Trip Computers with the Expressive Time Scroll Picker for shift scheduling. Cortex (Control Center → Cortex) is a dedicated hub for on-device routine learning, 5 visual layout lenses (Cosmic, Neural, Clock, Strength, Map), Proactive Route & Hazard Briefings, What-If commute simulations, Time Travel historical replay, 4-level Autonomy ladder, Ranked Core Habits, Data Retention windows (30d–180d), and the encrypted Telemetry Log Explorer.

How does Cortex protect my routine data?

All commute habits, relational node graphs, and telemetry logs are processed 100% on your device and encrypted at rest with hardware-backed AES-256 via SQLCipher bound to your Android Keystore Master Key. Raw GPS locations are never uploaded to the cloud. You can pause collection, customize your route alert threshold, or wipe individual categories or all data at any time in Control Center → Cortex.

How do Cortex visual lenses, collision-free layout, and synaptic connections work?

In Cortex (Control Center → Cortex), the Knowledge tab renders your learned routines across 5 spatial perspectives (Cosmic domain galaxies, Neural correlation network, 24-hour Clock dial, Strength rings, and geographic Map). A deterministic spatial hash resolver prevents planets and clusters from overlapping or stacking. Synapses between routines are drawn as smooth curved Bézier paths with 8-point obstacle avoidance that route around intermediary nodes. You can inspect routines with continuous semantic zoom, track orientation with the bottom-end corner Minimap, toggle the domain color Legend, test departure times via What-If simulation, and scrub historical brain growth with Time Travel.

I forgot my master password. Can you reset it?

No, and that is by design. Your vault is zero-knowledge, so Salina Labs cannot read or reset it. Use your 12-word recovery phrase on the recovery screen to regain access. Store that phrase somewhere safe and offline.

Where do I find my recovery phrase?

Open Security Vault → View 12-Word Recovery Phrase and confirm with biometrics or your master password.

I deleted a contact or shortcut by mistake.

Deleted items stay recoverable for 90 days. Open Contacts → Recently Deleted, select the items and tap Restore.

Pro subscription

What does Pro include and how much is it?

Pro adds unlimited wake words, a customizable Bento grid, encrypted cloud sync and more. It's $2.99 per month or $21.99 per year, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.

How do I cancel or restore my subscription?

Open Control Center → Pro Subscription and tap Manage Subscription on Google Play to cancel. On a new device, tap Restore Purchases.

What happens to my data if I downgrade?

Nothing is deleted. Items beyond Free limits are kept encrypted on your device and marked Pro Locked. They re-activate instantly if you resubscribe.

Account & data

How do I delete my account and data?

In the app, open Driver Hub → Permanently Delete Account and re-authenticate. This removes all cloud records and your sign-in. Cancel any active Google Play subscription separately in Google Play. To only remove cloud backups, use Purge Cloud Backups. To request deletion without the app, email support@salinalabs.dev from your account email.
